Here Lorde focused on the formal elements of poems from her old catalogue, '50 to '79 and including classics like "Coal" and "Movement Song," and gave them overhauls so that they shone anew. Plus there is never-before-released poetry. We get to see how conscious choices of editing and revision were a key part of creating of a poetic identity and voice unique to American letters.
"For every poem written, there is the bedrock of experience(s) within which the poem is anchored. A molten hot light shines up from the core of those experiences ... How to honor that light, do justice to the subtlety of its changing auras -- without shifting or fracturing the bedrock from which the poem arises -- that is the task of revision."
