The Spice-Box of Earth

The Spice-Box of Earth

Leonard Cohen.

New York: Bantam, 1968. Tall 12mo. Pictorial paper wraps with some small, barely noticeable indentations, paper browning as usual, small nick to the rear fore-edge, else a remarkably well-preserved copy. 83 pages. First Bantam paperback edition. Near fine.

Leonard Cohen's second collection of poetry published in 1961 when he was 27; written in the years prior to Cohen dedicating himself to songwriting. Shortly after publication the Orphic saint decided to get lost, surfacing in Greece on an island without trees. An immaculate copy of this desirable Cohen title.

"Songs of soul and passion,

             erotic ballads,

religious elegies celebrated with

               pagan joy,

tales of lost and cuckolded love . . ."
