The Odyssey
Homer. Translated by T.E. Shaw.
Oxford University Press: 1932. First edition of this translation. Hardcover. Octavo. Tanning along the edges of the boards. Fading along the spine. Edges of the textblock somewhat browned by time. Some soiling, a former's owner's name and purchase date, and a stamp on the endpapers. A few small smudges. A tear at the top of the title pages. Other than these defects, the book is clean. 327 pages. Very good.
Great book, great look. Cover design, type, feel, margins, the translated prose - all of it adds up to a wonderful production of this classic of classics.
"O Divine Poesy
Goddess-daughter of Zeus
Sustain for me
This song of the various-minded man
Who after he had plundered
The innermost citadel of hallowed Troy
Was made to stray grievously..."
