The Adult Life of Toulouse Lautrec, Volume Three
Kathy Acker.
The Black Tarantula: 1975. First edition. Staple bound soft cover. Small octavo. Mild discoloration to the front wrap. One tiny tear on the edge at the top of front wrap and a light smudge by the type on the cover. 132 pages. Very good.
The third installment (out of six) that comprised the original printing of The Adult Life of Toulouse Lautrec. Acker's referential cut up process earned infamy with this novel when Publisher's Weekly wrote that Acker had lifted more than a thousand words from a Harold Robbins novel. But as her fans, lovers, and defeated rivals know, there was no stopping this woman of letters.
"I got out of my chair and went to the dance floor alone. Pushing my way into the crowd, I began to dance. I gave myself to the music, happy that I was in the middle of New York City where no one thought it strange that a woman or man wanted to dance. I closed my eyes."
