Story of the Eye
Georges Bataille.
With essays by Susan Sontag and Roland Barthes.
Marion Boyars: 1979. Second edition. Hardcover in a jacket. Octavo. Shelfwear and small tears along the edges of the jacket. Trace foxing on the back panels. Tanning on the tops of the boards, and a few dings on the corners. One faint smudge on the back board. Foxing on the text block edges as well as on the endpapers. On the bottom of the first few leaves there is a small gash. Pen marginalia (lines and question marks) and underlining on some pages, mostly the essays. 127 pages. Very good.
A pornographic quest to the limits of desire and transgression. The eye is more than a symbol.
"Simone gazed at the absurdity and finally took it in her hand, completely distraught; yet she had no qualms, and instantly amused herself by fondling the depth of her thighs and inserting the apparently fluid object."
