Songs of Innocence
William Blake.
Trianon Press: 1954. Facsimile edition. Number 728 of 1,626 copies numbered with pages watermarked with Blake's monogram. Hardcover in a slipcase. Octavo. Smudges and faint white stains on the boards, most of them along the tops of the boards. A few hardly noticeable dings on the bottom edge of the text block. A wear of dark impression and a little foxing along the margins of the endpapers and the preliminary leaves, more along the endpaper than the other leaves. Unpaginated. Very good.
The Trianon Press continues to make the world a better place for Blake reading freaks and madmen. Reproducing the illuminated plates with the 'Arches' rag paper that Blake used, the French master printers Beaufume and Duval retain the tenderness of Blake's colors and immerse the reader in the poet-printer's continual exchange of word and image. As noted above, Blake's monogram is a watermark on every page.
"And we are put on earth a little space,
That we may learn to bear the beams of love..."
