Slow Days Fast Company
The World, the Flesh, and L.A.
Eve Babitz.
Knopf: 1977. First printing. Hardcover in a jacket. Octavo. Smudging and a little wrinkling on the top of the jacket, especially its back panels. Sunning along the top of the jacket, from the front flap to the back and on both sides. Stains on the front boards, especially close to the spine, on which there is a fold. A couple of dings along the bottom of the jacket, and one of the corners has a tear but it is not exposed. Spine slightly leaning and a few stains on the text block. 178 pages. Very good.
How does a queen to remind everyone in her realm that she's the queen? In L.A., where magic has a chance to outpace power, you write like Eve Babitz. Once forgotten, Babitz is now emulated and celebrated everywhere.
"What I want to do is, one Saturday, we'll wrap all our troubles in dreams and get in the cat (you drive), and I'll take you on my glorious Weekend in the wilds of Kern County."
