Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
Edited by J.R.R. Tolkien and E.V. Gordon.
Oxford University Press: 1960. Small octavo. Hardcover with a dust jacket. From the library of the scholar Harry Berger. Green boards with gilt lettering. Copy would be near fine save for 7 pages with marginalia and underlining from the pen of the interdisciplinary scholar and author Harry Berger. Unclipped jacket has minor chipping to the crown of the spine. Book is very good (noting the underlining and so is the jacket.
"And seeing how beautiful she was,
And how dressed, and her face, and her body, and her flesh,
So white, joy swelled in his heart.
With gentle smiles they started to talk,
And their talk was of joyful things, they spoke only
Of bliss.
Words came flowing free,
Each was pleased
With the other; and only Mary
Could Save him from this.
That beautiful princess pressed him so hard,
Urged him so near the limit, he needed
Either to take her love or boorishly
Turn her away."
