"I remember here in this living room at a party I mentioned to a straight woman editor I knew only slightly that we were doing this book, and she got really angry. She said, 'Why does there gave to be a separate book for gay people?' At the time I felt she was blaming us and said, 'Well, it isn't our fault.' Later I found out that this woman's son was dying of AIDS, and that she was unable to tell anyone."
