New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1949. Octavo. Green boards with a touch of sun fading. Bumped crown and heel of the spine and remnants of a previous owner's signature to the inside of the front board. Unclipped jacket has a dime sized piece missing from the top edge of the back cover and fading to the spine. A bit of rubbing and edge wear with a tiny stain along the top edge of the front cover. A gnome epic set in the British countryside.

“Slowly the fire died away; nobody spoke. They lay on their backs warming their toes and watching the trembling stars high above and the dark rustling crown of the black poplars etched against the velvet sky.”
