Primitive Man
Amy Gerstler.
Hanuman Books: 1987. Second edition. Number 7 in the series. Softcover in a jacket. Jacket has minor shelf wear along its edges. 58 pages. Jacket near fine, book very good.
Gerstler's observations are so gentle and limpid you don't realize you're chuckling as her sentences propel you through her own 'primitivism,' or: her growing up in New York, in love with all things ancient.
"OK. I know it was a barbaric era, in some ways. But the Old Testament stories are great and strange. Miracles, plagues, and idolatry raged across the desert, while the pyramids were built. It's the most bizarre boook I've ever read, so I have no trouble studying. I breeze through the chapters we're assigned and read on ahead to see who gets killed next."
