Not All I See Is There
Bernard Forrest.
Santa Barbara: Black Sparrow Press, 1970. Large octavo. Ribbed yellow cloth boards with a pastedown print on the front cover and another pastedown on the spine, title printed in lavendar on both. Mild soiling the upper and lower edges, very small knick to the top of the text block affecting the first half of the block. 69 pages. First limited edition, no. 48 of 200 copies signed by the author with an original watercolor tipped in. Near fine.
A lovely, vibrant Black Sparrow production. Forrest's poems are presented opposite reproductions of his watercolors and nude line drawings. The original watercolor precedes the title page and is protected with a tissue guard. Sexy 70s California fine press, pure eye-candy, also a meditation on eye-candy being more than what actually appears.
"A blank canvas an invitation
Her mind like that
To start with the light colors
Here and there
To end up going
Out of the picture."
