Rafael Alberti; drawings by Pablo Picasso.

New York: Gas Station Editions, 1992. Octavo. Textured white paper wraps, small crater on the upper right corner of the front fold, very light soiling. 93 pages. First edition, signed by one of the translators, Gabriel Berns, to a woman who "made all this possibe," promotional material laid in. Near fine.

Alberti was a member of the Generation of '27 and the last of Picasso's poet-muses. He immersed himself in the work of Machado and Jimenez while in a sanatorium, ran into Federico García Lorca, Luis Buñuel, and Salvador Dalí at the Residencia de Estudiantes, later read political poems over the radio during the Spanish Civil War, and was utlimately forced into exile. A handsome book, with Picasso's portraits of Alberti and Alberti's poems about Picasso. Presentation copy, golden age of Spanish poetry.

    are an over-populated country."
