    Louise and Stuart James.

Monterey: Little Books. Octavo. Red pictorial boards, chipped and scuffed, spine faded. Text block clean, solid. Unpaginated. First edition, inscribed by the author. Good.

Bloomp, the tiny man with a deep voice and a big heart, is an obscure contributor to the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer origin story. It was who Bloomp, a supernatural Northern California native, who harnessed Rudolph to Santa's sleigh that fateful, foggy Christmas Eve. Presented here is a real charmer of a rare, vintage Christmas book, illustrated and authored by a husband and wife duo. This book is inscribed by Mr. and Mrs. James on the front end-paper, with the names of the children who once owned the book scrawled above. Significant wear to the spine with scuffed boards, which have a pictorial, pasted paper wrap  covering the exterior. The red wrap is mottled and soiled but that has created an oddly beautiful patina effect. The interior is clean and the wear on the binding is mostly cosmetic. Clearly a book that was beloved and handled by the children who owned it, now almost impossibly rare. OCLC identifies no institutionally held copies; only two other unsigned copies on the market.
